There are plenty of items that can be used to jazz up your fireplace. Florals, candles, a nativity scene, and Christmas cards are just a few.

Florals, Greens, Acorns

While the Christmas tree may be the main attraction, it doesn’t have to be the only greenery in your home. Consider using floral arrangements, mistletoes, wreaths, and acorns. These can be real or artificial, and can be bought easily at crafts stores or even the dollar store.

Candles

Using candles is a great way to decorate your fireplace mantel. If there are children or pets in the house, it might be safer to use electric candles. Otherwise, let the flames of the lit candles bring in the warmth and comfort of the holiday season. Line up different sized candles across the mantle or place a large candle in the center. Electric candles even come in different colors, which are perfect for any home.

Nativity Scene

If your fireplace mantel is large enough, create a nativity scene to remember what Christmas is really about – the birth of Jesus Christ. Most nativity scenes include figures of Mother Mary, Baby Jesus, and Joseph, but others may include shepherds, sheep, the barn, and angels as well.

Christmas Cards

A fireplace mantle is the perfect place to display the Christmas cards you receive from everyone during the holiday season. Put a few of your favorite out or use a card holder stand to display them on multiple rows. Just remember, if you plan to have guests over, make sure to have their card on display.

The key to decorating a fireplace mantle for Christmas is to use a combination of these items. The idea is to mix and match and use various colors and textures to complement your existing Christmas décor.

It seems like yesterday that frantic customers filled shopping malls, searching for the perfect gift for their loved ones and soon it will be done all over again. Christmas 2015 falls on a Thursday and already, retailers are gearing up for the big sales. For some it’s the shopping that makes Christmas a wonderful time; for others, it’s family gatherings or the joyous decorations. Whether young or old, not many people can resist the countdown to the big day. Here is one creative way you can countdown to Christmas Day this year.
Christmas Countdown Wheel
For this project you will need:

Corkboard coaster
25 Wooden clothespins
Christmas themed scrapbook paper
1.5 inch diameter lid
Scissors
Construction paper
Markers
Glue gun.
12 inches of ribbon

Instructions for making your Christmas Countdown Wheel

Using the lid as a template, trace 25 circles on construction paper and cut each circle out
Number them from 1 to 25.
Glue each one of the circles to a clothespin (use the side that doesn't clip).
Then take your corkboard coaster and put it on top of the scrapbook paper. Trace a circle and cut it out.
Glue the cutout on to the top of the coaster.
Next glue the ends of the ribbon together to create a loop.
Adhere the loop onto the backside of the coaster.
Then take the clothespins and clip them around the coaster in numerical order.
Beginning December 1st, remove one clip each day until Christmas.

When is Christmas 2014? http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/xmas-2/christmas-2014/ http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/xmas-2/christmas-2014/#comments Thu, 31 Jul 2014 21:29:49 +0000 http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/?p=5368 Christmas 2014 falls on the very same day that it does every year…December 25.  In the US as well as many other countries, the Christmas holiday is steeped in traditions that include Santa Claus, carolers, and decorations and for Christians celebrating the birth of their Christ.

Here it is and we are faced with yet another holiday season right around the corner.  Everyone always goes a little holiday mad trying to decorate the house, tree, yard and anything else, making sure all of the gifts are bought, wrapped and shipped if need be, planning the holiday trips or meals and all of the other hustle and bustle that accompanies the day.

A very large aspect of the holidays is decorating your home and that is what is up for discussion today.
Christmas Decorations
Some families have traditions that dictate even which day they start decorating.  Some families decorate as a family while others prefer to let just one person handle it.  Some families decorate inside and outside while others may not decorate at all.  Whatever you do in your family is what is right for you.  There is no right or wrong way to decorate.

When a house is decorated nicely, it gives your guests a warm welcome as they come to share the holidays with you.  It also keeps people from asking prying questions about why you don’t decorate.  If you are a creative person then there is no limit to the decorations that you can come up with.
Christmas Decorations
As a basic decoration, most people hang a wreath of some sort on the door.  Some people actually cover their doors with shiny foil and bows to imitate gifts.  Another basic is the Christmas tree.  Some people have the space to go large with this decoration while others may only have room for a small, table top tree.  Some people use live trees while others use fake ones.  Either way, there is nothing that says Christmas like a beautifully decorated tree…regardless of the size.
Christmas Decorations
From trees, there are knick-knacks to put out, candy bowls, door hangers and the list goes on for inside decorations.  The big attraction for outside decorations is generally lights.

Decorating for the holidays can be a great family experience and what better way to experience it that with an ugly Christmas sweater?  You and your family can all don your ugly Christmas sweaters and get the holiday decorating done in a few hours.  You can even choose to make a tradition out of making your own ugly Christmas sweaters too.  When you and your family al wear your ugly Christmas sweaters, you can have someone take a picture and then use it as a great family Christmas card.  Just be sure to send them in time to reach the intended recipients before December 25.

What to Get Your Boyfriend for Christmas http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/xmas-2/get-boyfriend-christmas/ http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/xmas-2/get-boyfriend-christmas/#comments Thu, 31 Jul 2014 21:06:55 +0000 http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/?p=5363 Show your boyfriend just how much you care by buying or making him a gift that he will love almost as much as you love him.  You can get him something practical, give him an experience he will never forget, give him a romantic gift or even make something for him.  No matter what you do, your man is sure to love it.
Practical
Practical gifts are often common things that we use all the time.  You can splurge on a pair of designer sunglasses or a watch – something that he will use all of the time and think of you when he does.  Clothing and picture frames are also good practical gift ideas.  Gift cards are neutral yet very practical and he will be able to get exactly what he wants with one.
Romantic
With a romantic gift, you can heat up the passion in your relationship.  Bottles of champagne or wine are timeless options and sure to set off a Christmas evening that won’t be forgotten.  You can also buy him a book of love vouchers or even make one yourself, filling it with things like candlelit dinners for two, breakfast in bed, free massages and anything else.  You might also like to make a scrapbook or photo album and fill it with things from your history together.
Experiences
Plan a trip, buy tickets to his favorite sports team’s next game, go skydiving…anything that will give him an experience to remember.  No gift will ever be able to compare to the gift of experiences.  Also, experience gifts live long after anything else in his memory.
Ugly Christmas Sweaters
This is a gift idea that is catching on all over the world.  It used to be that ugly Christmas sweaters were gifts that were given by relatives and were hated but had to be worn at least once so that the giver could see you in it.  Those days are gone.

Now, ugly Christmas sweaters are becoming more of the tradition.  There are ugly Christmas sweater parties where the person with the ugliest sweater wins prizes.  There are ugly Christmas sweater days at work and school.

You can make your boyfriend an ugly Christmas sweater with ease and have fun doing it.  You might even give him the materials and you could make one together.  It is also very easy to buy an ugly Christmas sweater like the ones seen here at uglychristmassweater.com.  There are all sorts of them to choose from.  Some have writing on them while others are just pictures and designs.  These sweaters are so ugly they are cute and when you give your boyfriend one of these, you are sure to see a huge smile.

How to Draw a Christmas Tree http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/xmas-2/draw-christmas-tree/ http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/xmas-2/draw-christmas-tree/#comments Thu, 31 Jul 2014 20:56:20 +0000 http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/?p=5360 Are you looking for something creative to do this holiday?  This is a great activity to do with your kids or by yourself.  For those who have Christmas parties for kids, this is a great group activity too.  For a group you might want to get a large roll of paper and spread it out on the floor for the kids to all work on together.

The first step in drawing a Christmas tree is to draw a triangle using a pencil.  This triangle will be the guideline that you use for your tree.  Now pencil in a star right at the top of the triangle.  While this step is generally last in real life, for the purposes of this lesson it will be first.  Make sure when you are drawing that you leave room under the tree for the stand.

Don’t try to be a perfectionist.  When you try to fix mistakes or wobbles it ends up just drawing attention to them.

Now it is time to draw the top part of the tree.  Make three pointy branches and remember not to try to get it perfect.  At this point, overlapping the triangle is not a big deal.

Now you need to add a row of branches that will be halfway between the bottom of the triangle and the top.  Make four points; one point will be on either side of the triangle while the other two will be inside the triangle.  Once you have done that, add the bottom row and make five points this time.  Keep all of your lines relaxed and remember this is supposed to be fun not a stressful, perfectionist activity.

Just under the tree, you will draw a box and then connect it to the tree with two distinct lines.  Add two more lines across the box shape – tree pot – to form a ribbon and then draw a bow in the center of the ribbon.

Now you can erase the guidelines of the triangle.

This type of drawing is great for use as a homemade Christmas card.  Make the drawing on a heavy piece of watercolor paper and then fold it in half with the drawing on the outside.  Write your message on the inside.  You can fill in the picture with crayons, watercolor, marker or anything else.  Trace over the outside lines of the tree with a Sharpie.

Once you have done all of this you can decorate the tree.  Use glitter, stickers, draw on the lights an ornaments and just have fun.  This is a great activity for kids to do during the holidays.

You might even want to try this on the computer with one of the drawing programs that are available.

How to Decorate a Christmas Tree http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/xmas-2/decorate-christmas-tree/ http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/xmas-2/decorate-christmas-tree/#comments Thu, 31 Jul 2014 20:52:39 +0000 http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/?p=5358 Believe it or not there is a secret to decorating a Christmas tree beautifully.  It is really simple too.  The secret is simply to do it in layers.

Surely we all enjoy seeing all of the beautiful Christmas trees in the window of every house we see during the holidays.  Decorating the tree is a great family tradition that is looked forward to each year.

Decorating the tree wasn’t a popular thing to do in America until the late 1800’s and back then, decorations were things like popcorn garland and handmade ornaments.  Now though you can find all sorts of ornaments from vinyl records to souvenir ornaments and even more.  Out of all of the available ornaments though, probably the most popular ones are the lights.

The lights are in fact, step one of decorating a beautiful tree.

Tree lights come in a variety of styles but most of them will have either white or green wire strands.  It is recommended that you get the color wire strands that match your tree which will enable you to hide the wires more efficiently.

When you start with the wires, begin at the base of the tree and then work your way around and up to the top and then back again.  Make sure that you wrap lights around each of the branches.  Be sure not to skimp on the lights.  For each foot of height the tree has, you need at least 100 lights for it to bit lit properly.

Steps 2 and 3 can be reversed if you like but for the purposes of this article we will say that step 2 is garland.

The only real thing to remember about garland is that you don’t want to wrap it too tightly around the tree.  You should start all the way at the top of the tree and then work your way down and around, increasing the amount of garland each time around the tree.  For a beautifully garlanded tree, plan on using around 2 strands of garland times the height of the tree.  If you have a 7 foot tree then plan on using 14 strands of garland.

You can also switch the garland up.  Use some fancy beaded garland for branch to branch draping while using the thicker garlands made from foil, ribbon or paper for the overall decorating.

Step 3 is the ornaments.  In order to showcase the ornaments that are your favorite, put them on first in prime positions.  Once you finish with those, find the larger ornaments and place them on the tree making sure to evenly space them.  Fill in the spaces with the rest of the ornaments.  Make sure that you hang some of the ornaments close to the tree trunk in order to give it more depth.

Where to buy Ugly Christmas Sweaters http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/buy/buy-ugly-christmas-sweaters/ http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/buy/buy-ugly-christmas-sweaters/#comments Sat, 28 Jun 2014 06:11:36 +0000 http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/?p=5159 It seems like every year all of the Christmas hype starts a bit earlier.  Remember when you were a kid and Christmas always seemed so very far away?  Ah, the halcyon days…a thing of the past.  Now we know there are Christmas parties to attend…and maybe host, gifts to be bought for nearly everyone you know, decorating, planning Christmas dinner and/or travel plans, waiting in line at the airport or train stations, endless shopping and all of the rest that we have to remember to do during the holidays.

One bright spot of the holiday season for a lot of people though is getting their ugly Christmas sweater.  Maybe you need one for ugly sweater day at work or you may be attending an ugly Christmas sweater party or three.  Regardless, it is best to find your yearly dose of ugliness early before they are all picked over.

More and more, shopping is being done in the comfort of our own homes.  It is much easier to sit at the computer and get all of your Christmas shopping done in an hour as opposed to spending days going from store to store looking for something for everyone on your list.

Shopping for ugly Christmas sweaters is becoming more of an online thing too.  For example, when you visit our site uglychristmassweater.com, what do you think we would have for sale?  You got it…ugly Christmas sweaters.

We have them in all shapes and sizes with designs that range from traditional to movie inspired to adult themed…sort of…in a elfish kind of way.  We have something here for every taste up to and including for the Scrooge in your life.  You know there is one in your life…everybody has at least one.

The sweaters that you will find here (these include sweatshirts and even a couple of “belly” sweatshirts) are all pretty reasonably priced and if you happen to order more than $50 worth of sweaters then we ship them free of charge.

You will even find sweaters in our product line that light up…bring ugly and head turning ability to a new level.  One thing that everyone knows about ugly Christmas sweaters is that they act as ice breakers and can be conversation starters no matter where you are.

By the way, when you visit our site and find a sweater that you would like to purchase you can do so right on the site or over the phone.  If you have any questions, comments or concerns, you can call or email us.

Honestly, were you aware that there is an online store open all year around that is dedicated to nothing but ugly Christmas sweaters?  Now you know.

Ugly Christmas Sweater Ideas – Homemade http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/diy/ugly-xmas-sweater-ideas-homemade/ http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/diy/ugly-xmas-sweater-ideas-homemade/#comments Sat, 28 Jun 2014 05:59:22 +0000 http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/?p=5155 If you are in the mood to get creative and make your own ugly Christmas sweater this year, there are a ton of ways to make them.  The first thing that you will need to do though is to get a sweater.  It is generally a good idea to get one that is all one color.  You may have such a sweater already, but if not you can pick one up at a thrift store for next to nothing.

The next step is to decide what type of design you want to put on it.  If you are good with paints, you might decide to get some fabric paints and make your ugly Christmas sweater that way.  If so, draw out your design first and stencil it onto the sweater, then paint over the stenciled design with the fabric paints and let it dry.

Talking about stenciling leads to talking about transfers.  You can get iron on transfers at any craft store.  These are easy to do and only take a few minutes.  Just follow the instructions on the transfer and you are good to go.

You may decide that you would like your ugly Christmas sweater to be a bit more…um…3D?  If so, once you decide on the design, make a list of the materials that you will need (glue gun, glue sticks, fuzz balls, jingle bells, wreaths, tiny Christmas ornaments, LED lights, etc.) and head down to the craft store to get what you need.  Most of the time designs of this nature can be hot glued onto the sweater and this can actually become a tradition to do at holidays with the kids.  The sweaters can then be kept as keepsakes from past holidays together.

If you are truly industrious, you can actually make the entire thing from scratch.  It helps to know how to sew or knit if you are going to follow this route.  It also helps to have a lot of time on your hands coupled with the drive to get it done.  Generally, ugly Christmas sweaters that are entirely made by hand like this will have the ugly Christmas design knitted or sewn in as the sweater is being made.

As you can see, in just a few paragraphs we have covered all sorts of ways to make your own homemade ugly Christmas sweater.  Think of all of the ways and designs that we don’t have the space here for.  The ideas are absolutely endless.  Your sweater can be funny, ironic, Christmas movie inspired, traditional, and religious and anything else you want it to be.  Regardless, anytime you wear an ugly Christmas sweater you will turn heads and the sweaters are actually a great conversation starter.

Happy designing!

How the Grinch Stole Christmas http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/xmas-2/grinch-stole-christmas/ http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/xmas-2/grinch-stole-christmas/#comments Sat, 28 Jun 2014 05:37:39 +0000 http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/?p=5151 **Warning – Spoiler Alert**
For those of you who may have been hiding under a rock since, oh, forever and have never read the book or seen either if the movies, here it is in a nutshell.

The Grinch lives on a mountaintop over the village of Whoville, where all the Whos live.  Every year he can hear them singing and making merry around the Christmas season he sees them running around, erecting the huge Christmas tree in the middle of town and basically all of the hustle and bustle that comes along with the season.

The Grinch hates Christmas.  He hates everything it represents and involves.  He thinks that it is all about the gifts and food and all of the merchandising that goes with it.  He grinches about it to his faithful little dog, Max.

Eventually, he decides that he will put an end to Christmas once and for all.  He scrounges an antler which he then straps to Max’s head (it weighs more than Max does) and then scrounges a “Santa” shirt for himself and then attaches Mac to a sleigh that holds a huge empty bag.

Bet you can guess where this is going.

He waits until Christmas Eve night when all of the Whos in Whoville are asleep and then has Max pull the sleigh down the mountain.  He then proceeds to go through all of the Whos’ houses and steal all of their Christmas.  Gifts, trees, decorations and yes, even the roast beast.

The smallest Who, Cindy Lou Who wakes up and thinks that he is Santa but he placates her and puts her back to bed.

Once he has cleaned out all of the Whos’ houses, he heads to the center of the town and steals the town tree.

Mission accomplished, he has poor little faithful Max pull the sleigh back up to the top of the mountain where the Grinch eagerly awaits Christmas morning thinking that it will be nice and quiet for once…with maybe a few sobs thrown in for good measure.

Well, Christmas morning arrives shortly, the sun peeking over the mountain making all of Whoville sparkle since it is all covered in snow.  The Grinch is eagerly anticipating the reaction of the Whos.

The Whos wake up and find everything gone.  They all head out and end up at the town center where the big tree had been just hours before.  Linking hands, they all begin to sing Christmas songs, swaying back and forth and being thankful for the day.

As the Grinch hears the singing he realizes that it all isn’t about the marketing and all that it entails.  It is about so much more.  As the realization takes him, his heart grows three sizes and he takes all of the Whos’ Christmas stuff back.  They welcomed him with open arms and the Grinch himself carved the roast beast.

Cute Ugly Christmas Sweaters http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/buy/cute-ugly-christmas-sweaters/ http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/buy/cute-ugly-christmas-sweaters/#comments Sat, 28 Jun 2014 04:57:00 +0000 http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/?p=5148 That kind of sounds like an oxymoron, don’t you think?  In all actuality, the ugly Christmas sweaters that we used to hate to wear have become almost a symbol of the season…kind of like hanging the lights and fighting the crowds to save a few bucks in the middle of the night on Black Friday.  We hate doing those things, but we end up doing them anyway.

As far as cute ugly Christmas sweaters go, they really do exist…depending on your taste.  There is one for men that is called the Stripper Pole sweater that features 3 elves, all waving money at the human stripper in Santa themed lingerie dancing around the “North Pole”.  It bears saying again…it depends on your taste…although a good sense of humor might be more accurate.

There is another one called the Merry F*ckin’ Christmas Sweater too.  This is a red sweater that has Christmas trees running across the middle of it.  Above the trees in black block lettering are the words “Merry F*ckin’ Christmas”.  Seems like if ugly Christmas sweaters were en vogue back in the day, that one may have been apropos for one Mr. Scrooge.

There are all sorts of ugly Christmas sweaters for men, women, boys and girls and really for children of all ages.

Moving along to women’s sweaters, fans of Home Alone ought to recognize the Filthy Animal Cropped sweatshirt.  This one is sort of a mint green color with what seem to be snowflakes along the top and bottom of this “belly” sweatshirt.  Written in white block lettering across the front is “Merry Christmas ya Filthy Animal”.  Hmmm…maybe this one would be good for a woman in the Deep South like Florida or Alabama…you know, the places where shorts and t-shirts are weather appropriate on Christmas.  Going around in the snow with a cropped sweatshirt on wouldn’t exactly prove the existence of an abundance of brain cells.

Oh, and what Christmas would be complete without an Elf Christmas sweater?  The Elf Christmas sweater has red and white striped sleeves, a rad strip around the bottom of the sweater and the ubiquitous elf vest/shirt? On top of that.  It is complete with the red collar featuring points that are tipped with jingle bells.  I kid you not.

While we are talking about North Pole themed sweaters, we can’t leave out the Claus.  The Big Santa Claus sweater is green with cutesy little designs on the front as a background for a ginormous Santa Claus head.  The back of the sweatshirt is plain.

It is almost interesting to wonder what kind of minds come up with these creations.  Are they creative or demented?  Look at some of the ones you can find on our site this season and you be the judge.

Ugly Christmas Sweater Prize Ideas http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/parties/ugly-christmas-sweater-prize-ideas/ http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/parties/ugly-christmas-sweater-prize-ideas/#comments Wed, 20 Nov 2013 18:54:28 +0000 http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/?p=1719 When you are going to be throwing an ugly Christmas sweater party then there might be games, activities and contests that will be in your plans.  These can really make a party great!  There are all kinds of different games that you can play, activities that will get everyone involved and no ugly Christmas sweater party would be complete without a contest to see who wore the ugliest Christmas sweater.

When it comes to games and contest there should be prizes for the winners.  They don’t have to be big prizes but they should be fun.  For games the prizes could be like little coffee mugs filled with Christmas candy and tied up with a bow.  For the contests you could give “trophies’’ to the winners that may be little Santa bobble head dolls wearing an ugly Christmas sweater.

There are endless possibilities for gifts and prizes for the people who win the contests and games.  When you are going to hold an ugly Christmas sweater party then you need to be creative and find prize ideas that will be fun and still not break your budget.

If you happen to go into a craft store or a Christmas store you will be amazed at what you can find in these places that will make amazing prizes for you winners.  They will have all kinds of ideas for different party games as well.

With the combination of the right games, activities and contests coupled with just the right prizes, your party will be a hit and your guests will be counting the days until the next year’s party.

Ugly Sweater Christmas Party Games http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/parties/ugly-christmas-sweater-party-games-2/ http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/parties/ugly-christmas-sweater-party-games-2/#comments Tue, 19 Nov 2013 18:47:32 +0000 http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/?p=1716 If you are thinking about hosting an ugly Christmas sweater party this year then you might want to have some ugly Christmas sweater games.  This can be something as simple as having a contest to see who has the ugliest Christmas sweater or it could be something more complex like an ugly Christmas sweater scavenger hunt.

For an ugly Christmas sweater scavenger hunt you will have to pay close attention to who has what on their sweaters.  Make notes of different items that are on the sweaters before the game starts.  When you have enough items on your list the game can begin.  Break the guests up into groups or teams and then hand out different parts of the list to different teams.  As they go around looking at everyone’s Christmas sweaters in search of the items the fun will ensue.  This is a great way to get your guests mingling and interacting with people they may not generally know or have anything to do with.

If your party is one where there will be drinking you could hold a pageant/drinking game.  This is where you pick something out that you would normally see on an ugly Christmas sweater…let’s say a tree.  One by one you can have the guests come up front and display their sweater…each time the item(s) appear everyone must drink.

You could also get a picture of Santa that has been blown up and little ugly Christmas sweaters with push pins on them and play pin the sweater on Santa.

There are a great many more games and activities that you can play and do in regards to ugly Christmas sweaters.  What kinds of games and activities will you be holding at your ugly Christmas sweater party?

How to Host an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/how-to/host-ugly-christmas-sweater-party/ http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/how-to/host-ugly-christmas-sweater-party/#comments Mon, 18 Nov 2013 08:12:32 +0000 http://www.uglychristmassweater.com/?p=1667 Ugly Christmas sweater parties are a great way to celebrate the season with your friends, family and co-workers.  They are great fun and everyone always has a memorable time.  If you are thinking about hosting one then you will have a great time planning it too.

Here are a few tips for hosting one:

Plan your budget and try really hard to stay within it
Have some festive seasonal snacks and food, punch, etc.
Decide if there will be games and if so, what kind?  There is a great one called the Christmas tree relay race.  This is where you break the guests up into teams and they choose one of their team members to be the ‘’tree’’.  They then get supplies such as a roll of green crepe paper, a novelty Christmas headband with a tree, reindeer, a star, whatever on it for the tree topper and whatever else that you want them to decorate their “tree” with.  When you say go, they have a certain amount of time to decorate their ”tree”.  This could be like 60 seconds.  Whoever has the most complete and best looking tree at the end of the allotted time wins.
Hold an ugly Christmas sweater contest with a prize of some sort being given for the ugliest one.
Plan for your guests to have activities to do throughout the night interspersed with some time just to mingle.
It’s a party…the best thing that you can plan for is to plan for it to be fun for all of your guests.
